We convert to CMYK with the right ICC profile. For critical colours (e.g. a company logo) we run a test proof to make sure the shade has not shifted.
We extend the design by 3 mm of bleed on every side. Backgrounds and images are stretched so that no white strips remain at the edge after trimming.
We embed fonts into the PDF or convert text to outlines. When the printer opens the file, they see exactly the same look as you do.
We replace images with 300 dpi versions if the client has the originals. If not, we suggest alternative cropping or sourcing from a stock library.
Small text must be 100% K (pure black), not four components, otherwise the printer picks up a smudging effect. We correct this automatically.
We embed the right ICC profile (ISO Coated v2 for coated paper, PSO Uncoated for uncoated), matched to the paper and the printing press.
