Straight from the camera: cold shade under the flyover, flat contrast, muted mural colours. After correction the white balance is even, highlights on the facade are recovered, the shadows open up and the colours survive reproduction in print.
A nineteenth-century stereo card from Paris: a yellow-brown cast, dust, small damage and a tonal range squeezed into a quarter of its span. After restoration the contrast and legibility are rebuilt, while the grain and the character of the old print remain.
The chair is cut out along with its thin legs and the fringe of the throw, then placed in a new interior. The same object, the same scale and position in frame: only the surroundings, the light and the shadow beneath it change.
Illustrative examples. These are not client commissions but three demonstration edits made on sample material. The “before” is the untouched source file, the “after” is work actually carried out. On a real commission the result depends on the quality of the source material, so it looks different with every photograph.
