Every typographic decision affects the rhythm of reading. Margins, gutter, leading, baseline grid, these decide whether a book "sits well in the hands".

Alignment

Good typography is invisible. The reader notices neither the typeface nor the spacing, and simply moves through the text. It is the result of deliberate decisions: the chosen typeface, the size, the leading and the column width. Change any of these and you will feel the reading rhythm shift.

Raw manuscript versus spread

Text arrives as one flat block, with no hierarchy and no breathing room. After typesetting: deliberate margins, a baseline grid, running heads, an initial and typography that guides the eye across the page.

Tables and data under control

Pasted tables drift and break the rhythm of the page. After the work: aligned columns, clear headers, consistent spacing and leader lines that bring order even to dense data.

Step by step

What the
typesetting process looks like

I

Quote and arrangements

You send the text and a project brief. Within 1-2 business days you receive a quote with a schedule.

II

Sample typesetting, a dozen or so pages

I prepare 10-20 pages in 2-3 stylistic variants. This is where we settle the typography.

III

Full typesetting

I typeset the entire publication based on the approved brief. Consistency from the first page to the last.

IV

Two rounds of proofs

Author's proofreading, applying corrections, a second proof. This stage usually takes 10-14 days.

V

Print-ready PDF/X-4 file

Final export with CMYK profiles, bleeds and registration marks. Plus the InDesign source file for future reprints.
