How does the book differ from the thesis?
A monograph is a substantial publication focused on a coherent subject. Readers outside the examination process need a clear account of the problem, argument and contribution. Review the title, contents and introduction from that perspective.
Revise references to the dissertation process and update material where necessary. Complete structural changes before typesetting: moving chapters later also affects notes, references and page-based navigation.
Which publishing route should you choose?
Ask the publisher which services it provides and whether external typesetting is acceptable. Agree responsibility for editing, review, design, printing and distribution. Requirements differ between institutions and countries.
Do not assume that the thesis examination automatically satisfies the publication review, or that a completely new review is always required. The publisher sets its procedure. If you need the book recognised for an academic purpose in Poland, confirm the applicable requirements with your institution.
How should you plan the budget?
University or research-project funding may be available, subject to the relevant rules. Separate editing, review, typesetting, image preparation, printing and distribution in the estimate. Confirm eligible costs with the body providing the funding.
How I work on these publications. My standard book typesetting starts at PLN 200 net per publishing unit, approximately 40,000 characters including spaces for continuous prose. Academic monographs are priced somewhat higher according to their complexity. Free quotes are prepared within 1-2 business days, and I can also complete the university's or funder's estimate form. My references provide evidence of professional collaboration.
What should the manuscript include?
Text and guidance
Supply the agreed manuscript and the publisher's instructions. Use a consistent heading structure and reference style, and check that citations match the bibliography.
Tables and figures
Send editable source material where available, with separate images, captions and credit information. Confirm the permissions needed for previously published material before production.
Additional sections
Include abstracts, author biographies and acknowledgements. An index is an organised list of terms with references to their locations; agree who selects its entries and checks them after pagination is stable.
How do you coordinate an edited collection?
The academic editor should establish common rules before collecting chapters. Track the status of each contribution, including image permissions and author information. One coordinator should consolidate corrections affecting the whole volume.
Keep academic review, language editing and page-layout checking as clearly assigned responsibilities. My guide to preparing an academic monograph covers the material needed for typesetting in greater detail.
When should production begin?
Begin once the publisher accepts the approach and the manuscript is ready for layout. Allow separate time for author checking, proofreading, final approval and printing. Institutional decisions and reviews are not controlled by the typesetting schedule.
If you want open access, agree the permitted file version, licence and publication route with the publisher. Include digital accessibility requirements in the scope from the start.
