Reflowable or fixed-layout EPUB?
Reflowable EPUB adjusts the text when readers change font size or screen dimensions. It suits many novels, memoirs and text-led books. Page breaks are not fixed in the same way as in print.
Fixed layout preserves the position of elements and can suit content whose meaning depends on their arrangement. Check how the intended devices display complex pages. Send representative tables, notes and images before choosing the format.
When should you use a standard or interactive PDF?
PDF is useful when a stable page layout matters, but a screen edition should be prepared for reading and sharing. A printer's production PDF may contain technical elements and unnecessarily large images.
An interactive PDF keeps the page layout and adds a clickable contents list, cross-references and links. It works well for catalogues, reports and guides read on a computer. List the functions you need in your enquiry.
What happened to MOBI, and which sources are needed?
KDP's upload requirements are separate from the capabilities of Kindle devices. If you need a MOBI file, for example for older Kindle readers or another platform, I can prepare it alongside the EPUB. Confirm the accepted input format for the particular publication.
I need the source text or layout materials, not only the print PDF. Recovering text from a PDF can introduce reading-order, note and word-break errors. This is a production requirement, not a claim that conversion is technically impossible.
How I work on these publications. Ebook preparation starts at PLN 125 net per publishing unit, approximately 40,000 characters including spaces for continuous prose. When I also typeset the printed book, the ebook is an additional agreed scope using common materials. I prepare ebooks in EPUB, MOBI and PDF, including interactive PDF.
Which accessibility rules apply in Poland?
Poland's accessibility legislation has applied since 28 June 2025 to specified consumer services, including ebook distribution. It excludes services offered or provided by microenterprises. That exemption does not automatically settle the responsibilities of distributors or obligations arising elsewhere.
For public-sector documents, additional rules may apply. Agree the relevant requirements with the publisher or commissioning institution.
What makes a digital publication accessible?
Headings need a meaningful structure, informative images need suitable alternative descriptions, and reading order must make sense beyond the visual layout. Metadata describes the publication, including language and relevant accessibility properties. Complex tables need particular care.
Ask the author to help explain the information conveyed by illustrations. A useful description depends on the image's role in the book.
How should the ebook be checked?
Technical validation. Automated checks test defined rules and identify some faults. They do not replace every manual accessibility check or an assessment of whether the content makes sense.
Reading checks. Review navigation, links, notes and difficult pages in the intended reading environment. For reflowable EPUB, vary the text settings. Keep print and digital editions aligned with the approved text; see my portfolio and service for authors for the broader production scope.
